What Does Genetics-Led Nutrition Actually Involve?

Genetics-led nutrition, also known as nutrigenomics, uses information from your genes to help personalise nutrition and lifestyle recommendations.

While our genes do not determine our destiny, they can influence how our bodies process nutrients, respond to exercise, metabolise caffeine, manage inflammation, detoxify certain compounds, and regulate aspects of health such as cholesterol levels, blood sugar control, and nutrient requirements.

At Vita Nutrition Clinic, genetic information is never used in isolation. Instead, it is combined with your health history, symptoms, dietary habits, lifestyle factors, blood test results, and clinical goals to create a personalised nutrition strategy.

Rather than following generic health advice, genetics-led nutrition helps us understand why one approach may work well for one person but not for another.

This approach may be particularly useful for individuals interested in:

  • Preventive health and longevity
  • Weight management
  • Cardiovascular health
  • Optimising energy levels
  • Personalised supplementation
  • Hormonal wellbeing
  • Understanding individual health risks

As a Genetic doctor and Clinical Nutrition Practitioner, I combine scientific evidence with practical nutrition strategies to help you get the best result according to your body and genes not a general nutrition advise

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Genetic Nutritionist?

A Genetic Nutritionist combines advanced knowledge of genetics and nutrition to create highly personalised nutrition and lifestyle recommendations. Rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach, recommendations are tailored to your unique biology, health history, symptoms and goals.

Do I need a DNA test to work with you?

No. Many clients achieve excellent results without genetic testing. Recommendations are based on a detailed assessment of your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, blood test results and health goals. Genetic testing is only suggested when it is likely to provide useful additional insights.

How is your approach different from a standard nutrition consultation?

My background includes a PhD in  Genetics, over 15 years in pharmaceutical research, and advanced training in clinical nutrition. This allows me to look beyond diet alone and consider factors such as genetics, gut health, hormones, nutrient status and metabolism when developing a personalised plan.

What conditions do you commonly support?

I frequently work with clients experiencing fatigue, hormone imbalances, low mood, digestive issues, weight management challenges, perimenopause, menopause, fertility issues, cardiovascular risk factors, burnout, long COVID recovery, blood sugar imbalances and general health optimisation.

Can genetics explain all health problems?

No. Genetics is only one piece of the puzzle. Lifestyle, nutrition, sleep, stress, environment and medical history often play an equally important role. My goal is to understand the complete picture and identify the factors most relevant to your health.

Will I receive a personalised nutrition plan?

Yes. Every client receives recommendations tailored to their individual needs, goals and circumstances. There is no generic meal plan or one-size-fits-all approach.

Do you use functional testing?

When appropriate, I may recommend additional testing such as blood chemistry analysis, microbiome testing, hormone testing or nutrigenomic testing. Testing is always optional and only recommended when it is likely to influence your nutrition strategy.

Is your service suitable if I have a complex health history?

Yes. Many clients come to me after trying multiple approaches without finding answers. My scientific background helps me investigate potential root causes and create a structured, evidence-informed plan.
